2007 Contest Winners

it reaches your tap?
Studies show the more people know about their water supply, the more they
will do to conserve and protect it. That's why RWA and its members are
working to raise public awareness of our most precious natural resource.

Each water service provider has a staff person called a "Water Conservation
Coordinator" ready to answer questions about water efficiency and
provide details on the services available to you. If you are unsure

The Regional Water Authority (RWA) and local
water providers have launched the 2008 ULTIMATE “Water Smart”
Garden Makeover Contest!
The Regional Water Authority and local water providers in the
greater Sacramento area have partnered to create the ULTIMATE
"Water Smart" Garden Makeover Contest. Contest is open to all
homeowners whose water providers are members of the Regional Water
Efficiency Program.
Did you know that water smart gardens are beautiful and can save
you money while increasing the value of your home? The Contest
is aimed at helping local homeowners save water and money by incorporating
water-wise gardening concepts such as low-water use plants and
trees into their landscaping.
Grand Prize: one free makeover of the winner's
front yard, featuring a custom water smart landscape design by
Cheryl Buckwalter from Landscape Liaisons and equipment and services
donated by generous partners such as Garden Retreats, Capital
Nursery, Village Nurseries and Bedrock Pavestones. (Total prize
valued at up to $40,000).
RUNNER-UP prizes:
Second Prize: A professionally designed, custom
water wise landscape plan by Joseph Pattin of Garden Retreats.
Third Prize: Two trees in 24-inch boxes chosen
for the winner's location using the "River
Friendly Landscaping Guidelines." (published by the Sacramento
Stormwater Quality Partnership).

Sign up for a Water Wise House Call
During a Water Wise House call, a trained water efficiency professional
will visit your home free of charge to check your irrigation system
and provide a custom watering schedule. If requested, they will check
indoor plumbing fixtures for leaks and also provide free water saving
materials and devices.

Cheryl Buckwalter
Principal, Landscape Liaisons
Cheryl is a residential landscape designer who specializes in
water-conserving and ecologically-responsible landscapes. Because
she understands that every design needs an implementation plan -
or it's just a design - Cheryl forms partnerships with her clients
and works closely with them to interpret their desires and needs.
Then through communication, collaboration, and coordination, she
unites contractors, suppliers, and other service providers to
help produce and maintain these functional and creative landscapes
- the special places her clients can enjoy for years to come.
Cheryl holds a degree in Environmental Horticulture from Sierra
College. She is Vice President of the Sacramento District's Board
of Directors for the Association
of Professional Landscape Designers® (APLD),
a Professional Member of the International
Society of Arboriculture (ISA),
and a Committee Member for EcoLandscape
California. She was the Project Manager for the 2007 ULTIMATE
Water Smart Garden Makeover Contest and is the Designer and Project
Manager for the 2008 Contest. She has also been the Director of
Horticultural Services for an interiorscape company.
Cheryl prides herself in providing the utmost attention to every
detail of her designs and installations. As her company's slogan
